Getting the most from a palette

A color palette is the small set of colors that define a look. Pulling one from a photo — a sunset, a brand shot, a favourite illustration — is a quick way to start a cohesive design. This tool samples your image locally and picks the most representative, distinct colors.

How the colors are chosen

The image is sampled down, colors are grouped into buckets, and a distinctness rule keeps the swatches visually separated so you don’t get five near-identical blues. The share percentage tells you how much of the image each color covers.
