Good to know

How engagement rate is calculated

The most common formula is total interactions ÷ followers × 100. Interactions usually means likes plus comments, and — where they apply — shares and saves. This calculator uses the by-followers method, the easiest to compare across accounts.

What counts as a good rate?

It depends on the platform and your size. On Instagram, 1–3% is typical and anything above ~6% is excellent; TikTok tends to run higher, while X sits lower. Smaller accounts often see higher rates than large ones. Want the full picture? Read what is a good engagement rate.

Engagement by reach vs followers

If you have your reach or impressions, dividing by those instead of followers gives engagement by reach — often a fairer measure for accounts whose posts travel well beyond their followers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which interactions should I include?
Likes and comments at minimum. Add shares and saves if you have them — they're strong signals and this tool includes them in the total.
Should I use one post or an average?
Use the average of your recent posts (say the last 10) for a rate that reflects your account rather than one viral or quiet day.
Is a higher rate always better?
Generally yes, but context matters — a huge account with a lower percentage can still out-earn a small one with a high percentage in raw interactions.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing you enter leaves your device.
