The tool measures the loudness of your audio in tiny slices and marks any stretch that stays below a threshold for long enough as silence. Those stretches are cut and the audio either side is joined — all locally with the Web Audio API.
Raise the threshold if quiet speech is being cut; lower it if background noise stops gaps being detected. The minimum length stops it chopping up natural pauses between words, and padding keeps a little breathing room so cuts don’t sound abrupt.
It’s ideal for podcasts, voiceovers, interviews and lecture recordings — anywhere long pauses and dead air make a recording drag. Music with intentional quiet passages needs a gentler threshold.
