Most social video is watched on mute, so on-screen captions are the difference between being understood and being scrolled past. Burning them in guarantees they appear on every platform, in every player.
A soft subtitle track can be switched off — or dropped entirely when a platform doesn’t support it. Hard (burned-in) captions are painted into the frames, so they can’t be removed or misaligned. The trade-off: they’re permanent, so export a captioned copy and keep your original.
Use the outline or box style over busy footage, keep lines short, and size captions so they’re legible on a phone — roughly five to six percent of the frame height works well.
